Surgery #5500!

Today we had a huge milestone for CAAT – our 5500th surgery since CAAT began in 2005. Over the years we’ve visited many communities across Canada from Kyuquot British Columbia all the way to Pond Inlet Nunavut. We’ve made our way south to Dominican Republic and Mexico, and we’ve assisted after natural disasters struck Japan, Peru, and of course Hurricane Katrina.

Welcome Max – our 5500th patient!

Max’s family hung around from start to finish to help him through his surgery today

Nicki took excellent care of Max. We met her yesterday during her

school trip through our clinic

When Hurricane Katrina struck in 2005, CAAT was started with Donna Lasser, RVT, seeing a need for veterinary care and emergency response. Some of our team members here in Lax Kw’alaams have been here since the beginning. Isabelle and Jackie have now been a part of CAAT for 12 years since they volunteered together in the aftermath of hurricane Katrina.

Over the years CAAT has developed into a Canadian based organization that works closely with rural communities to provide veterinary care that wouldn’t otherwise be available to them. Our community hosts are instrumental in the success of these clinics. The amount of organization that goes into a community field veterinary hospital is pretty impressive; our community contacts and hosts have put so much effort into this short three day trip.
