NWBC Burns Lake: Favourites

We got Day One of NWBC Burns Lake 2016 in the books yesterday with 35 spays/neuters plus another 35 patients in for vaccinations and wellness checks.

Team members shared their favourite moments from the first day:

Watching owners cuddle up to their pets at the end of the day in Recovery.

The cat named Tinkerbell that came in for a spay turned out to be an already neutered male instead of a female. Tinkerbell.

Seeing the entire clinic jump every time Chewy, a very large, boisterous black lab mix, would explosively bark from his covered crate in the waiting area. He is just a wiggly love bug, but his deep bark was fierce.

Chewy was my favourite. He’s just a cool dog.

When Bailey the Chi-weenie woke up very suddenly in Recovery and tried to make a run for it. A tiny little stoned dog dodging people under tables, quickly stopped his escape.

Discovering and fixing Rumple the black cat’s infected uterus. I was happy to be able to fix that because Rumple will be much more comfortable.

Seeing the first dog go under anesthesia to kick off the project. Because then you know it’s on like Donkey Kong.

Removing Rocket’s split canine tooth. Getting that out dramatically improves quality of life for Rocket, a friendly yellow lab mix. So today I know I made a difference.

Rocket’s owner was so in love with his dog He had the biggest smile on his face when he got to be with him after surgery. He said he was silently praying for him.

Gaining confidence. Part of the responsibility in Recovery is giving vaccines. Although I already knew how to do them, Chris’s coaching and guidance really built up my confidence.

The 35 patients that came in just for a wellness check/vaccination had been spayed or neutered in previous CAAT clinics at Burns Lake. So we saw the impact of the clinics over time.

Seeing that animals who had been patients in prior years were coming in much healthier. It’s nice to see the positive effect of the education program about animal care.
